The event began 34 years ago and is now considered one of the premiere fishing events on the East Coast.

Former Hoggard pitcher picks up win for Sharks; Hornets unveil new uniforms

videoHoggard graduate Joe O'Donnell picked up his second win of the season on the mound on Thursday for the Wilmington Sharks. In front of one of the largest crowds of the season the Sharks beat Morehead City. Michael Jordan won't be suiting up for the Charlotte Hornets, but his team will at least look sharp. The Hornets unveiled their new uniforms on Thursday. In Pinehurst a 6th grader won over the crowd with an impressive round at the U.S. Open and a few licks of ice cream during her media conference.

Wilmington golf cart driver facing charges for hitting Trooper at US Open

A Wilmington man is facing felony charges after the NC Highway Patrol says he hit a trooper with a golf cart at the US Open tournament in Pinehurst Saturday and tried to get away.

Sharky celebrates birthday with bed giveaway; Sharks edge Marlins

videoSharky was awfully busy on his birthday. The mascot of the Wilmington Sharks ended his day with a home victory over the Morehead City Marlins. In Pinehurst the lead is six shots by Martin Kaymer after two rounds over his nearest competitor at the US Open.

NBC Sports omits 'under God' from Pledge of Allegiance; VIDEO INCLUDED

NBC Sports apologized for editing out the phrase “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance in its introduction to the broadcast of Round 4 of the U.S. Open on Sunday.

Tiger Woods skipping US Open

Injuries to his left knee and Achilles' are bad enough that Woods decided Tuesday to skip the U.S. Open for the first time since 1994. The Masters is now the only major he has never missed as a pro.
