Awesome playoff results for local high school basketball squads; WWAY's sports - Feb. 26

videoOn Wednesday it seemed like every team from our region won in the state playoffs. The New Hanover boys won, Whiteville boys, West Brunswick boys, Trask boys, East Bladen girls, East Columbus girls, Ashley girls and Laney girls all won. All of those teams will advance to the third round on Friday. The home schedule is now complete for the UNCW men's basketball team. Buzz Peterson's basketball squad lost to Delaware on "Senior Night" at Trask Coliseum. Plus more!

videoFriday's Full Court Press featured a victory by Hoggard against West Brunswick in a battle for second place in the Mideastern Conference. We had basketball coverage from Ashley-Laney. Both games in Buctown came down to the wire. We checked out New Hanover-South Brunswick, Trask-Clinton & Pender-Wallace-Rose Hill. We even sneaked in college action too! We showcased UNCW-JMU in women's hoops and UNCW-VMI in college baseball.

Schools move up basketball games to Monday night

videoLess dunks than normal, but WWAY still attended the MLK Jamfest on Monday at Union High School in Sampson County. The event featured seven different basketball games on the same court on a day where students didn't have to attend school. In college men's hoops Cape Fear Community College and NC State both won, but the UNC Tar Heels did not. Plus more!

videoQuate McKinzie has transferred from Pender High to Harrells Christian Academy. McKinzie is a sophomore who's already on the radar of several college coaches. In Thursday night football Whiteville and Wallace-Rose Hill both won. We have a week 11 preview of Friday games. On a related note some schools will start football games early on Friday. Plus more!

videoThe high school football season is here. Despite the rain the BB&T Jamboree was played as scheduled at Legion Stadium in Wilmington on Friday night. Check out the first 5th Quarter of 2013. In baseball Wilmington Post 10 won their opening game at the American Legion World Series. Post 10 will face Louisiana on Saturday in a winner's bracket contest.
