videoFriday marked the return of Chasity Melvin to WWAY's Full Court Press. The NC State Hall of Famer made a guest appearance on Friday. This season's analyst, Kevin Schneider, had a previous basketball commitment to fulfill. We showcased a slew of basketball action on the Full Court Press. This included game action from Hoggard-New Hanover, Whiteville-East Columbus and much more including another football state championship for Wallace-Rose Hill.

Schedule set for MLK Jamfest in January

It's still more than a month away, but the schedule is now set for the MLK Jamfest at Union High School in Sampson County. There will be seven high school basketball games in all.

videoRound 3 high school football state playoff action is complete. Hoggard will be moving onto the east finals after an impressive, but close win over Scotland County. Whiteville was knocked out of the 1-AA state playoffs on Friday after leading at the half against Swain County. Plus more including scores, highlights and state playoff matchups for next week!

Pairings set for second round of playoffs

The brackets are now set for round two of the high school football state playoffs. Round two games will be held on November 21. Games are likely to be much closer than some of the outcomes we saw in the first round.

Laney & New Hanover advance in soccer state playoffs

videoLaney and New Hanover both won state soccer playoff games on Wednesday night. The two Wilmington schools will now face each other on Saturday. This guarantees a Mideastern Conference team will earn a spot in the eastern finals next week.

All three schools will hit the soccer pitch again on Wednesday for third round state playoff action. On our sports on Monday we had game coverage from the Laney-Hoggard playoff tilt and the New Hanover-Cape Fear playoff affair.

First round of boys soccer playoffs complete

videoThe first round of the soccer playoffs concluded on Wednesday night all around the state. The majority of our local squads won. Winners advance to the second round of the state playoffs later this week. Plus, we checked in with former UNCW Seahawk basketball standout Adam Smith on Wednesday. Smith now plays basketball at Virginia Tech.

Team of the Week - Whiteville Wolfpack

videoWhiteville High currently sports a five game winning streak in high school football. They've outscored their opponents 241-28 in their last five games. They're also alone in first place in Three Rivers Conference with perfect 5-0 league mark. That all adds up to Whiteville being recognized as this week's WWAY Farm Bureau Insurance at Mayfaire "Team of the Week."

Volleyball playoffs continue; high school soccer regular season winds down

videoOn Wednesday New Hanover shutout Hoggard in boys soccer. We were there to see some of the action. The Wildcats will earn a league title if they can win on Thursday against Ashley. Four area volleyball teams will continue their state playoff journey on Thursday. In fact the Wilmington Christian squad has a shot at securing a state volleyball title this weekend in Greensboro.
