It's heartbreak city for fans of New Hanover High. The Panther Creek boys basketball team stuck a dagger in New Hanover at the final buzzer to end the season for the Wildcats. WWAY was there for the dramatic finish. On Friday's Full Court Press we had extensive state playoff coverage from five different games: New Hanover's heartbreaking loss at the buzzer, West Brunswick's nailbiting victory over Southern Durham, a Trask come from behind win against Whiteville, East Bladen's come from behind thriller against Southern Vance and another nailbiter from East Columbus where the Gators won by one point. On Wednesday it seemed like every team from our region won in the state playoffs. The New Hanover boys won, Whiteville boys, West Brunswick boys, Trask boys, East Bladen girls, East Columbus girls, Ashley girls and Laney girls all won. All of those teams will advance to the third round on Friday. The home schedule is now complete for the UNCW men's basketball team. If you have ever seen Whiteville’s Shaun Kirk play basketball it is obvious that every team on the state would want to have him. Thanks to an NCHSAA loophole Kirk has been able to suit up for two different teams this season. Full story...

The New Hanover boys basketball team got off to a slow start on Monday in the first round of the state playoffs, but the Wildcats ended up sending Ashley packing. We had highlights from nine different games on Monday! We had video from Shallotte, Jacksonville, Wilmington, Lake Waccamaw, Whiteville and Rocky Point. On Tuesday Laney, West Brunswick and Trask all participated in the state wrestling duals. We had highlights from Buctown. We also featured high school hoops as well. This included Ashley's sweep of Hoggard, Whiteville's win over West Columbus in boys basketball and West Bladen's victory over Pender. In football news Ashley head coach Tom Eanes has been named an assistant coach for the Shrine Bowl in December. Plus more! Full story...

Whiteville High swept South Columbus on Monday in high school hoops. We had highlights from both games on WWAY. Brett Blizzard continues to scorch the nets in Italy. Blizzard pumped in 18 in his team's victory over the weekend. UNCW continues to slide in the national RPI rankings in basketball for both men and women. Plus more! Full story...

Former Tar basketball standout Buzz Peterson will take his UNCW basketball squad to Chapel Hill on New Year's Eve to face North Carolina’s Tar Heels in a reunion game for the fourth year Seahawk head coach. Peterson played four seasons for the Tar Heels from 1981-85. Whiteville remains undefeated in high school boys basketball.
