Family Dollar to cut jobs, close about 370 stores

Family Dollar says it will be cutting jobs and closing about 370 underperforming stores as it looks for ways to improve its financial performance. It says it will also cut prices on about 1,000 basic items.

Winter storms put local Red Cross in the red

The Eastern NC Region of the American Red Cross has seen an increase in disaster-related costs since the beginning of the fiscal year. The region is more than $50,000 over budget in direct financial assistance to disaster victims. In addition to this, winter storm responses in February have cost an additional $40,000.
