The Atlantic Coast Conference's plan to expand, revealed in 2010 and modified along the way, has come to fruition. Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Notre Dame became members of the ACC on Monday, giving the conference 15 members. The CAA also welcomed a new member on Monday. The College of Charleston is now officially a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. College football is coming to Wilmington in September. Plus more! Full story...

Former New Hanover basketball standout Kenny Gattison has been named as an assistant basketball coach for the Pheonix Suns. Gattison played for Phoenix from 1986-1989. Commissioner John Swofford put the ACC in the spotlight for a news conference at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday. The Wilmington Sharks dropped a close baseball game at home against Morehead City. Tony Kanaan won the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. Kevin Harvick won the Coca-Cola 600. The Wilmington Sea Dawgs dropped another home basketball game. The Dawgs are now out of playoff contention. Former Ashley baseball standout Trevor Kelly earned the save for UNC in Sunday's ACC baseball title game. Five ACC schools will host baseball regional competition next weekend. Full story...

Legendary high school football coach Jack Holley was buried on Friday in Duplin County. Legion Stadium in Wallace was packed to the top of the stands for Holley's memorial service. North Brunswick and Trask both lost in the high school state playoffs. UNCW takes an early exit from the CAA Baseball Championship. Full story...

In order to win the CAA baseball title the UNCW baseball team must work their way through the loser's bracket of the CAA Championship. Towson defeated UNCW on Thursday 13-11. In order to make it to the state championship the Trask softball team has to win their next two games. Trask opened the 1-A eastern softball finals with an 8-2 setback against South Creek. Plus more! The CAA Baseball Championship is underway, but severe weather has been the winner so far. The UNCW baseball team won't hit the field until Thursday afternoon. On Wednesday we stopped by Blizzard Athletics in order to catch up with two UNCW Seahawk basketball standouts. The rain held off, but it was awfully windy. Regardless, the Wilmington Hammerheads shutout Antigua 2-0 on Friday in the season opener at Legion Stadium.
