An abandoned house caught fire Friday afternoon on Fontana Road near Tahoe Road and Ashley High School. According to Ray Griswald of the New Hanover County Fire Department, crews are still investigating the cause of the fire. Firefighters were still putting out hot spots underneath the floor of the house late this afternoon. No one was injured. Full story...

On Tuesday night the Hoggard boys held their ground by defeating New Hanover in boys basketball. The Vikings remain in sole possession of first place in the Mideastern Conference. Laney now holds first place for the girls. In the Waccamaw Conference there's now a three way tie for first place in the boys with South Columbus, West Brunswick and North Brunswick. Full story...

A handful of games were postponed on Friday, but we still had more than our fair share of high school basketball on Friday's Full Court Press. In the Mideastern Conference the Hoggard boys moved into sole possession of first place with a win over Ashley. In the Waccamaw Conference North Brunswick remains the first place team. Full story...

On Wednesday on WWAY we showcased the Mideastern Conference Swim Championships at the Seahawk Natatorium on the UNCW campus. Hoggard claimed the girls title for the 14th year in a row. New Hanover lost on the road in boys basketball. UNCW lost in Atlanta against Georgia State. #1 Duke lost by 17 points, while the Tar Heels held off Georgia Tech. Full story...

On Thursday night the Ashley girls basketball team kept their perfect record in league play with a victory over New Bern. In fact the Ashley boys did the same. Check out our game action from the home of the Bears. The UNCW women's basketball team did not have the same type of success though. The Seahawks lost by 24 points at home against Old Dominion. Rasheed Brown of Trask was the frontrunner for WWAY's play of the night with a sensational slam dunk in the second quarter for Trask. It didn't end up being the play of the night though. Ashley's T.J. Williams ended up with that honor after he slammed home a dunk at the buzzer to give Ashley a one point win over New Hanover. On Friday we featured action from seven different venues with eleven games in all on WWAY's Full Court Press. Full story...

On Friday night WWAY provided extensive coverage from the Laney Sports Hall of Fame ceremony. The hall grew by seven. Friday was also a special night at New Hanover High School. The 2012 state champion Wildcat basketball team was honored prior to the New Hanover-New Bern game. Friday also featured a game in Leland that was marred by fan misconduct. The game started with a packed house. It finished with all the fans being ejected. Full story...
