Battleship North Carolina expects overnight guests

The Battleship North Carolina is making plans to host overnight guests. The StarNews reports officials plan to spend about $2.5 million to renovate areas where sailors had their berths as well as the ward room aboard the vessel moored across from downtown Wilmington.

Work is done fixing up part of the Battleship North Carolina. As part of its continuous preservation, the Battleship got repairs on its forward and main masts.

Battleship attendance best in 18 years

The Battleship North Carolina announced today that attendance continues to increase with the best December in 18 years. Almost 6,800 paid visitors came to the ship in December 2011. Fiscal year visitation numbers are also up, reaching an increase of 13 percent.

Battleship bow repairs finished

Taylor Brothers Marine Construction finished the project within the contract time frame and under budget. The company replaced steel plates at the "wind-water" line on the starboard bow.

video You're going to need extra patience driving around Wilmington on Saturday. There will be a few traffic hotspots due to the internationally recognized iron distance and half iron distance triathlon. Competitors from around the country will be biking, running and swimming around historic Wilmington.
