videoThe start of Sunday's Daytona 500 belonged to Danica Patrick, but Jimmie Johnson stole the show at the end edging out Dale Earnhardt Jr. Sunday was a fairly busy sports day at UNCW. It included the final home women's basketball game of the season for the Seahawks and a baseball doubleheader. Plus more!

WWAY's Wednesday night sports - Feb. 6

videoOn Wednesday the UNCW men's basketball team snapped their losing skid against the Panthers of Georgia State. The Seahawks won 76-72 at Trask Coliseum. On Wednesday we also showcased women's basketball action with Cape Fear hosting Brunswick and high school basketball play between North & South Brunswick. Plus, signing day for local high school seniors.

videoOn Wednesday night the UNCW men's basketball team captured their second consecutive conference win. The Seahawks are now 2-3 in the CAA after a 65-60 victory over Old Dominion. On Wednesday on WWAY we also featured Wilmington's Derek Brunson. The Hoggard graduate is an MMA pro. Brunson recently won his UFC debut in Las Vegas.

videoOn Tuesday on WWAY we covered six different basketball games. This included high school basketball action from Lake Waccamaw, Whiteville and Shallotte. It also included hoops from a holiday collegiate tournament at Brunswick Community College.

videoOn Sunday the Carolina Panthers looked like a playoff team. Unfortunately the playoffs aren't a possibility for Carolina, but the guys in black, silver and blue won consecutive games for the first time since last December. The UNCW men's basketball team on Saturday lost on the road against the Davidson Wildcats. Check out our game action from Sunday's 6pm newscast.

WWAY's Thursday night sports - May 31

video On Thursday we checked in one more time with the UNCW & Whiteville baseball teams. They'll both be back on the field on Friday chasing championships. On Thursday we attended two different national letter of intent signings in the Wilmington area. Plus, we made a trip to the Shark Tank to check out Wilmington's summer league baseball team.
