StormFest gets folks ready for Hurricane Season 2012

We are just days into Hurricane Season, but the tropics got fired up a little early this year. Although things are quiet now, we still have a whole season ahead of us. That's why many Cape Fear residents came out to StormFest 2012 Saturday at the Cape Fear Museum to learn from area experts, including WWAY's StormTrack 3 meteorologists, about preparing for a hurricane.

Kids of all ages solve 'Mystery at the Museum'

A Cape Fear Museum gardener found a pile of interesting things buried in the ground when he tried to plant a tree Saturday. Fortunately, hundreds of families helped him solve the ‘Mystery at the Museum.’

Kids of all ages learn wonders of science at Wilmington museum

t's called SciFest, and this is the second year the Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington has held the event. Folks visited a variety of hands-on activity stations, interacted with local scientists and watched some exciting demonstrations.

Confederate flag returns to Cape Fear Museum

The Cape Fear Museum welcomed home a restored piece of history this morning. A Confederate flag that flew over Fort Fisher during the Civil War is back after undergoing conservation work.

Confederate Flag returning to Cape Fear Museum

The flag received professional conservation, including, hand vacuuming to remove surface dirt; wet cleaning to reduce the appearance of stains and patching with sheer polyester fabric. Over 42 patches were needed to stabilize the flag.

NC museum wants to dispose of nitrate negatives

Curators at the Cape Fear Museum are seeking permission to destroy dozens of deteriorating photo negatives made from a material that can burst into flames or give off toxic gases as they decay.
