A new water filtration system will soon be in place for northern New Hanover County residents.
The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority said the additional filtration will improve the quality of water and provide alternatives to water softeners used by many homeowners.

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority celebrated the completion of an $80 million plant project that has been 10 years in the works.
The point of the project was to expand and make upgrades to the Northside Wastewater Treatment Facility in Wilmington.

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority's board is expected to vote on its budget for the next fiscal year Wednesday. The board is considering increasing the threshold on the tiered rate structure it uses, meaning customers would not be charged a higher rate until they use 12,000 gallons.
