On Tuesday night first place was on the line in the Mideastern Conference between Hoggard and New Hanover in boys basketball. First place was also on the line between Ashley and Laney in girls basketball. New Hanover easily beat Hoggard. Laney played tenacious defense to beat Ashley. On Tuesday night we featured high school basketball action from Wilmington and Hampstead. Click full story to see the complete high school basketball scoreboard from Tuesday night's play. This includes two different teams who put their undefeated records on the line. Undefeated New Hanover held off Ashley, but just barely. Undefeated Croatan held off Topsail, but it took overtime for the Cougars to win. Full story...

On Tuesday night we showcased highlights from the UNCW-Liberty men's basketball game. The Seahawks extinguished the Flames by nine points in Lynchburg, Virginia. Ashley senior Mason Boyles hasn't been able to compete on the high school level since the spring of his sophomore year due to a suspension that centered around his residency. He's back in rare form along with New Hanover distance runner Shelby Howell. She's not running against the girls. Howell is competing against the boys instead. Full story...

Even though it's late June most high school athletes are not spending all of the waking hours at the beach surfing or swimming. If they want playing time on the basketball court this winter they're more than likely playing hoops even though it's the start of the high school basketball season is still five months away.
