In July of last year, Brunswick County Commissioner Charles Warren was appointed by his fellow commissioners to serve as a board member of the Department of Social Services. Not only did he assume his duties as a DSS board member, but he eventually became chairman of the board as well. According to Commissioner Warren, the first African-American Brunswick County commissioner to be elected in 28 years when he took the seat in 2008, a storm began brewing in September when a decision was made to terminate the director of DSS. According to a letter Brunswick County DSS Director Jamie Orrock sent to his board, Orrock was terminated when the board determined he'd retaliated against workers who accused him of making sexual comments at work - reports the State Port Pilot. Full story...
