The first round of the soccer playoffs concluded on Wednesday night all around the state. The majority of our local squads won. Winners advance to the second round of the state playoffs later this week. Plus, we checked in with former UNCW Seahawk basketball standout Adam Smith on Wednesday. Friday's 5th Quarter was action packed despite the fact we kept our eye on the weather all night long. The first half of the Hoggard game was clearly a spectator's delight. It was a mixture of dynamic plays combined with a bit of intrigue. We have a lengthy recap of the Hoggard game. Unfortunately, it'll go down as a no contest. Wilmington resident Tamera Young is definitely in uncharted territory. Her team earned a spot in the WNBA Finals on Wednesday night. We had high school soccer action from Bladen County on Tuesday night on WWAY between East Bladen and North Brunswick. The Eagles have only played six times this season. Four of the games ended in a deadlock. A handful of area football teams are ranked in the first AP high school football poll this season. Plus more! Full story...

The 2014 high school football regular season is underway. On Friday we had coverage from several games. We expected to have a full slate, but the weather interfered with those plans. Some games were completed. Some started, but will need to be resumed. Some games never started. Full story...

The East Bladen Eagles came within a whisker of advancing to the third round of the high school football state playoffs last year. This season the Eagles appear to be even better team than the one Robby Priest had in 2013. The coach even admits it. Full story...

Day one of the Fred Lynch Invitational is complete. Six different venues are being used in New Hanover County to showcase this three day high school basketball summer event.
