On Monday we checked out high school hoops from Bladen County. The East Bladen Eagles swept a doubleheader against East Columbus. Champions! Boston defeated St. Louis 6-1 on Wednesday night to win the World Series. It's the first fall classic title for Boston in their home ballpark in 95 years. Laney, Hoggard, Whiteville, South Brunswick and East Bladen won first round state playoff games in soccer on Wednesday. East Bladen is this week's football team of the week. The Buffalo Bills released former New Hanover Wildcat Jay Ross on Tuesday. The New Hanover boys soccer team will advance to round two of the state playoffs after a shutout victory on Tuesday against Hoke County. We caught up with East Bladen boys basketball coach Ken Cross on the eve of the first official practice of the season. Derek Brunson is returning to the UFC ring next month. Brunson will fight for the troops at Fort Campbell. It's the next to last day for our "Two-A-Days". We featured Laney and Whiteville on Wednesday on WWAY. The East Carolina Pirates will be without two wide receivers this season. Two players were ruled ineligible for the season due to academic reasons. Former East Bladen Eagle Desmond Bryant continues to show generosity for the Eagle football program. Plus more! Full story...

There will be two football jamborees in our region on Friday: the BB&T Jamboree in Wilmington and the Buddy Burney Jamboree in Bladen County.
