Driving by, you may have noticed a large "X" on one of the runways at Wilmington International Airport. The runway is closed because the FAA is installing a new navigational aid.

ILM tests emergency plan through mass casualty exercise

Several New Hanover County and Wilmington agencies participated in the response. About 50 people volunteered to be victims of the simulated plane crash, which caught on fire and separated on the tarmac at ILM. The victims role played, each assigned different injuries.

Wilmington International Airport has received top marks from the Federal Aviation Administration once again. ILM earned a perfect score from the FAA Certification Safety Inspector for the fifth year in a row.

FAA begins Veteran Park plane crash investigation

Plane crashes for second time
