NC considers car-free ferry to Ocracoke Island

Transportation officials in North Carolina are considering a car-free ferry to Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks. Each car ferry takes about 30 vehicles to the north end of Ocracoke Island.

Ex-Chowan commissioner Goodwin is NC ferry chief

The head of Gov. Pat McCrory's eastern North Carolina office is the next state ferry system director. The Department of Transportation announced Monday that Ed Goodwin has replaced longtime system employee Harold Thomas, who was director since late 2011.

NCDOT sets hearings to discuss proposed ferry toll hikes
