A prominent New York City investor who drowned in a car after attending a party on Figure Eight Island earlier this year was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time of his death, a state medical examiner concluded in findings released Tuesday.

A preliminary autopsy report is in for a New York investor found in a submerged car off Figure 8 Island.
The report says Benjamin Robert Williamson died from saltwater drowning.

A security guard notified 911 that a residence at 3 Skimmer Road was on fire. Firefighters from New Hanover County Station 62 arrived and found heavy smoke and flames visible from a three story residence.

Memorial Day is known as the unofficial start to summer. And this summer is officially off to a deadly start after a boat capsized in the water off Figure Eight Island last night. Of the two people who were in the boat, only one was able to swim to shore. It is believed that the 22-foot center console boat capsized around 6 p.m. in Rich Inlet.
