West Bladen's DJ Mason & Hoggard's Tyler Thayer will represent the east in the annual East-West All-Star Basketball Game in July. Thayer and Mason both played for the Wilmington based Flight 22 basketball team last summer.

It took longer than Connor Barth wanted or expected, but the former Hoggard High School kicker is now one of the highest paid kickers in the NFL. Barth signed a four year contract on Thursday with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

WWAY’s Wednesday night sports segment featured the end of the road for UNCW softball coach Kelly Van Houten. Also in UNCW news, women’s golf coach Cindy Ho was named CAA Coach-of-the-Year for the second straight season. We also checked out first round playoff action for some of the area high school girls soccer teams. On top of that, we featured the Cape Fear rugby team as they hosted the Royal Logistics Core from England.
