Several major cities already use what's called a "ten-year plan" to end chronic homelessness. Now Wilmington is doing the same thing. A committee appointed by Mayor Bill Saffo has come up with a first draft of the plan. It calls for extending what is currently taking place in the City.

The area's homeless population may soon have a new place to go. Two local ministers want to establish Brunswick County's first homeless shelter.
There are more than 600 homeless people living in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties and it has been a long-time dream for one local couple to help them get back on their feet.

A veteran of the Vietnam War found himself homeless a few years ago. He now lives in Southport. But out of his experience, he started a non-profit organization aimed at helping homeless vets find a place to live.
