The newly-appointed secretary of the NC Department of Transportation made a stop in Wilmington Friday. Tony Tata joined other dignitaries at a luncheon hosted by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. Before the event got underway, Tata addressed his department's decision to issue driver's licenses to qualifying immigrants, saying it's a matter of public safety.

The NC Department of Transportation will temporarily close the eastbound and westbound lanes on the Dan Cameron Bridge on I-140 near Wilmington intermittently this week.
