Independent investigator hired to look into Bladen County teen's death

An attorney representing the family of a Bladen County teenager says they have hired an independent investigator to look into his death after an autopsy report said he died because of hanging. Attorney Allen Rogers said Thursday the family is questioning the autopsy report and is considering an independent autopsy.

Whiteville man convicted in wife's death 14 years later

A Whiteville man will spend more than five years in prison after his conviction for killing his wife 14 years ago. According to a news release from District Attorney Jon David, John Avery Phillip Cumbee, 53, was convicted Thursday of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 36-year-old Angela Jones Cumbee.
