More than a dozen family members of a 16-year old girl killed last year in Chadbourn met with the Columbus County District Attorney today, demanding answers. The FBI’s civil rights unit is working alongside local and state agencies to find out whether Jasmine Thar’s death was an accident or a crime.

Jasmine Thar was shot and killed outside of a Chadbourn home last December and nearly four months later no one has been arrested. The shooter claims it was an accident, but now state and federal investigators are involved.

An Elizabethtown murder investigation is now closed. More than three years ago, a shootout at a fast food restaurant ended with a 19-year-old dead. Today, the last two defendants entered a plea in court.

The battle between Brunswick County District Attorney Jon David and District Court Judge Jerry Jolly finally had its day in the state Supreme Court. WWAY was the only Wilmington TV station in the courtroom in Raleigh as justices heard arguments from both sides today about a dispute over traffic court.

There are a lot of questions surrounding the Leland Police Department after state regulators found problems with officers' training and certification. Many people are asking us what happens with tickets or arrests by officers without proper training.

Jon David, who is responsible for cases in Brunswick, Columbus and Bladen Counties was featured in this week's edition of "North Carolina Lawyers Weekly." A few strong comments by Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten in that story have stirred up some controversy. Today, though, Batten said some of those comments were taken out of context.
