Jonathan BarfieldCandidate Interview: Jonathan BarfieldJonathan Barfield is a second-generation New Hanover County commissioner. His father served on the board for 12 years. Barfield hopes to follow in his father's footsteps, which would start by being elected to a second term in office. Barfield serves on numerous boards and committees to help stay involved in the community. New Hanover County Commission Chair Jonathan Barfield has been reappointed to the National Association of Counties Transportation Steering Committee. It's another honor for Barfield, who recently became the only county commissioner in the state to reach the mentor level in the Local Elected Leaders Academy.

It's Fire Prevention Week and to start it off, the Wilmington Fire Department and New Hanover County Fire Rescue are targeting senior citizens in their effort to provide safety information. Firefighters are delivering Meals on Wheels all week, talking to senior residents about fire safety and checking their smoke detectors.
