UNC Tar Heel Stilman White attended the Hoggard-New Hanover game. We talked with White and we showcased the Vikings & Wildcats along with the Laney-Ashley matchup in Buctown. The girls game at Laney went down to the wire. On Thursday we also featured Topsail as our team of the week. On Tuesday night first place was on the line in the Mideastern Conference between Hoggard and New Hanover in boys basketball. First place was also on the line between Ashley and Laney in girls basketball. New Hanover easily beat Hoggard. Laney played tenacious defense to beat Ashley. To an outsider watching Pop Herring's basketball tryout in November 1978, it would not have been obvious that the gym at Laney High held a player destined to become the greatest in the universe. A schoolyard brawl isn't news, until it hits YouTube allowing the whole world to access the girl fight at Laney High School. Brooke Glisson's mom Emily says her daughter is the victim of the fight and she doesn't want her daughter's future destroyed by someone else's recklessness. Full story...

Hoggard and New Hanover will meet on Wednesday night at UNCW's Trask Coliseum. The championship of the 18th Annual Leon Brogden Holiday Basketball Tournament is at stake. This will be the first time New Hanover and Hoggard have faced each other in the Brogden championship game since 1994. New Hanover won that year by a single point. Full story...

On Friday night on WWAY we featured a preview of the 18th Annual Leon Brogden Holiday Basketball Tournament that will tip off on Monday at UNCW's Trask Coliseum. Eight high school basketball teams will be shooting for the title. One of the teams already has a tournament title this month. Hoggard won the Shootout by the Sea in Myrtle Beach on Friday. The Leon Brogden Holiday Tournament features eight high school basketball teams, four from Wilmington and four from out of town. It's a fun hoops event that fits right in the middle of the holiday season. In fact it starts the day after Christmas on the campus of UNCW. Full story...

On Thursday night on WWAY we featured the championship game of the girls holiday high school basketball tournament at Laney High School. Undefeated Laney hosted Ashley, but the Bucs didn't capture the title. It went to the Screaming Eagles instead.
