The 2014 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship concluded on Saturday night. Laney graduate Stephen Coetzer earned honorable mention All-American status for his performance in the 200 backstroke. Coetzer is a junior at NC State. As a team NC State finished in 15th at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship. That was the highest finish among the ACC schools. Full story...

UNCW claims 13th straight CAA swimming title

By a whisker the UNCW men's swimming team captured the CAA title on Saturday night. It's the 13th consecutive CAA title for Dave Allen's squad. In a winner take all event UNC Wilmington's 400 yard freestyle relay team won the last event of the night to secure the CAA title. On a related note former Laney swimmer Stephen Coetzer helped lead NC State to a second place finish at the ACC Swimming Championship with a school record performance. Full story...

videoIt's heartbreak city for fans of New Hanover High. The Panther Creek boys basketball team stuck a dagger in New Hanover at the final buzzer to end the season for the Wildcats. WWAY was there for the dramatic finish. On Friday's Full Court Press we had extensive state playoff coverage from five different games: New Hanover's heartbreaking loss at the buzzer, West Brunswick's nailbiting victory over Southern Durham, a Trask come from behind win against Whiteville, East Bladen's come from behind thriller against Southern Vance and another nailbiter from East Columbus where the Gators won by one point. Awesome playoff results for local high school basketball squads; WWAY's sports - Feb. 26

videoOn Wednesday it seemed like every team from our region won in the state playoffs. The New Hanover boys won, Whiteville boys, West Brunswick boys, Trask boys, East Bladen girls, East Columbus girls, Ashley girls and Laney girls all won. All of those teams will advance to the third round on Friday. The home schedule is now complete for the UNCW men's basketball team.
