Freshman midfielder Kalvin Kromer and junior midfielder Daniel Escobar each scored a goal in the second half to lead UNCW to a 2-0 victory over Bucknell University in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening. Laney High School and WWAY will team up in late November for the Laney-WWAY Thanksgiving Invitational. It'll be a two day basketball event. All games will be held at the Michael Jordan Gymnasium. We have details on the updated schedule of play. Full story...

Oakdale Cemetery held their annual flag event for veterans graves on Saturday. This year also included Pine Forest Cemetery and Bellevue Cemetery which nearly 1400 flags were placed. Full story...

Laney and New Hanover both won state soccer playoff games on Wednesday night. The two Wilmington schools will now face each other on Saturday. This guarantees a Mideastern Conference team will earn a spot in the eastern finals next week. Full story...

Laney, New Hanover and Whiteville all won second round state playoff soccer games on Monday night. All three schools will hit the soccer pitch again on Wednesday for third round state playoff action. The first round of the soccer playoffs concluded on Wednesday night all around the state. The majority of our local squads won. Winners advance to the second round of the state playoffs later this week. Plus, we checked in with former UNCW Seahawk basketball standout Adam Smith on Wednesday. Pender High senior Briana Pittman moved into 6th place nationally for career blocks in high school volleyball. Pittman now has 622 career blocks. We were in Burgaw on Tuesday when Pender's state playoff game was halted in order to recognize Pittman's achievement. We also had sports coverage from New Hanover, Hoggard and Laney on Tuesday. The football squad at Laney High is this week's WWAY Farm Bureau Insurance at Mayfaire Team of the Week recipient. Laney is currently 3-0 in league play in the Mideastern Conference with recent victories over West Brunswick, South Brunswick and Topsail. Full story...

Former South Columbus Stallion football standout Ethan Farmer says the UNC Tar Heel defense is getting better. Farmer and the Tar Heels host Georgia Tech on Saturday.
