Former Laney High basketball standout Tamera Young saved the season for the WNBA Chicago Sky on Monday. Young made a basket that forced the game into overtime. Chicago ended up winning the playoff game in double overtime. Coincidentally, the UNCW men's soccer team also won in double overtime on Monday. Full story...

Former Laney Buccaneer Tamera Young may have saved her best game of the season for crunch time. Chicago trailed by 20 points in game 3 of a best of 3 first round WNBA playoff series. Young scored 16 points in Chicago's come from behind 81-80 victory. Full story...

The Laney Buccaneers recently participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Laney head football coach Ashaad Yeoman and Laney football director of media relations Cori Stukes challenged the football teams at Ashley, Hoggard and New Hanover to follow suit. The first 5th Quarter of 2014 is now in the books. On Friday we had coverage from all five scrimmages at the BB&T Jamboree at Legion Stadium in Wilmington. Plus, we had coverage from the Buddy Burney Memorial Jamboree in Bladen County. Full story...

For the last four years Buzz Peterson has been a Wilmington resident. As of Thursday that's no longer the case. The former UNCW men's head basketball coach moved his family to the Charlotte area. Peterson will be working with the NBA Charlotte Hornets down the road. This means his son, Rob, will not be playing for Laney in the upcoming basketball season. Full story...

The Richmond Kickers came into Friday's USL Pro soccer game at Legion Stadium as the second place team in the league. The Wilmington Hammerheads managed to tie the Kickers in two earlier meetings this season, but unfortunately the Wilmington Hammerheads came up short on Friday night. Plus more! Full story...

Friday marked the first day high school football teams are permitted to hit the practice field for the upcoming season. Most squads waited for the sun to come up, but that was not the case at Laney. The Buccaneers waited for the clock to strike midnight. Our report from Buctown includes standout Tariq Lane. The senior has decided to attend Laney after contemplating a move to Charlotte.
