The first official practice day for high school football all across the state has come and gone. On Monday we checked out some of the sights and sounds on WWAY.... On Wednesday night we featured championship day at the Fred Lynch Invitational Basketball Tournament in New Hanover County. Cari Blalock's third attempt this week at the US Olympic Trials came up a bit short, but Blalock is having a great week in the pool nonetheless. On Monday the Fred Lynch Invitational Basketball Tournament tipped off at two locations in New Hanover County. On Monday Wilmington's Cari Blalock had a terrific day in the pool. We've been to more than our fair share of baseball games here at WWAY, but we've never seen anything like this. The Shark Tank turned out to be a battlefield on Thursday night. UNCW graduate Aaron Livengood has been named the head baseball coach at Laney High School. Livengood replaces veteran coach Vern Barker who recently announced his retirement. Full story...

Tuesday night’s sports segment featured state playoff action from several high school baseball and softball teams in the Cape Fear region. We traveled to Ashley to watch the Screamin’ Eagles against Laney in a battle of Mideastern conference rivals. We also saw baseball action from Whiteville and Topsail.
