For months, we have been following the developing situation within the Leland Police Department. The many issues came to a head last week when Chief Tim Jayne was fired. Today, we sat down with Interim Police Chief Karl Smith to find out what he has planned for the future of the department.

Tim Jayne was fired earlier this week, but we're still uncovering controversy within the department while he was chief with officers saying they did work in his neighborhood and at his home while on the clock.

Nearly five months after WWAY first broke the story of Leland Police officer Sherry Lewis being shot in the crotch during a training exercise, the man at the top is out. Town Manager David Hollis says he fired Police Chief Tim Jayne first thing this morning.

At last night's Leland Town Council meeting, Town Manager David Hollis revealed that Police Chief Tim Jayne has been on probation for months. In fact the reprimand came the very same night we first reported on the issues inside the Leland Police Department.

The Town of Leland settled yet another claim against the town from a Leland Police officer at Thursday night's special council meeting. The settlement says officer Kevin Foss will resign as an employee, the claim he filed will be dismissed and the records concerning the situation will be sealed.
