Hoss Ellington dies after lengthy illness

Hoss Ellington was inducted into the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. He's now the second inductee of the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame to die this month. 2010 inductee Joe Miller passed away earlier this month.

videoOn Sunday, May 4, the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame will welcome the 2014 inductees into membership at their annual banquet at the Burney Center on the campus of UNCW. The Reception and Silent Auction will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the induction ceremony and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The annual golf tournament will be held Saturday, May 3.

Mayfield convicted on drug, stolen goods charges

Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield has been convicted on charges of possession of stolen goods and drug paraphernalia. Mayfield was convicted Monday in Catawba County Court.

videoOn Sunday UNCW continued its domination in exhibition games with its 26th consecutive preseason victory following an easy 92-51 decision over NCAA Division III Methodist Sunday at Trask Coliseum. The UNCW volleyball team also won. We had highlights from both of those games on WWAY. The Cape Fear Community College women's soccer team captured the Region X title on Sunday.
