The inaugural "Champions 4 Cancer" basketball event concluded on Sunday without a champion. A dispute over prize money led to several teams walking off the court prior to the end of the tournament. In baseball Wilmington Post 10 was a shutout winner over Whiteville on Sunday night. The O'Neill Sweetwater Pro-Am Surf Fest concluded on Sunday with several area surfers holding more than own at Wrightsville Beach in the men's pro finals. Full story...

The 39th Annual Cape Fear Sevens Rugby Tournament is just days away. It's annual sports tradition that always occurs the weekend closest to July 4th. Cody Zeller spent Friday afternoon visiting the facilities for the Charlotte Bobcats. Zeller was the fourth overall selection in Thursday's NBA Draft. The Wilmington Hammerheads and Charlotte Eagles played more than 90 minutes of soccer on Saturday night. Neither team managed to score. The Hammerheads currently sport a 4-8-2 record. The Fred Lynch Invitational is just days away. The off-season basketball event will feature 45 high school basketball teams over a three day period. South Carolina beat North Carolina in baseball on Sunday. NC State beat Rice. The Wolfpack advances to the College World Series for the first time since 1968. Tony Kanaan won the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. Kevin Harvick won the Coca-Cola 600. The Wilmington Sea Dawgs dropped another home basketball game. The Dawgs are now out of playoff contention.
