Melissa Gott, whose ascent in New Hanover County politics abruptly collapsed under skepticism about whether she owned a permanent residence there, re-registered to vote in the county last week only days after the Board of Elections purged her from the voting rolls.

Business owner Justin LaNasa has challenged Melissa Gott's residency with the Board of Elections. According to the paperwork he turned in, LaNasa claims Gott is not a resident of the county, city or voting precinct she claims.

The group behind a petition to block taxpayer money for a ballpark in Wilmington is farther from its goal than originally thought.
After double-checking, the Board of Elections now says the petition is 45 signatures short.
