Now he wants to throw his hat back into the ring. O'Shields says he thinks his experience on the board will help improve the quality of life in the county. Candidate Interview: Frank MearesFrank Christopher Meares says he is running for New Hanover County Commission on a campaign of responsibility and accountability. Meares says he thinks it's important to hold politicians accountable so their campaign promises become reality. That is why he has created a petition he hopes everyone running for office will sign. Candidate Interview: Jason ThompsonJason Thompson is currently a New Hanover County Commissioner. He hopes to keep his seat. He says although he previously said he would not run for re-election, he can't give it up yet. Before serving on the commission, Thompson was a member of the Wilmington City Council. Candidate Interview: Woody WhiteWoody White says he is focusing his campaign for New Hanover County Commission on honesty and integrity. He says his problem-solving skills along with his track record make him stand out amongst the rest. Candidate Interview: Robert ZappleIt's time for New Hanover County to get back to work. That's why Rob Zapple says he wants a seat on the New Hanover County Commission. As a small business owner and community leader who sits on the board of several non-profits, he's ready to bring new ideas to the board, solve problems and bring projects to life. Candidate Interview: Robert MurrayAfter serving in the Army for 20 years, Robert Murray is now ready to serve the citizens of New Hanover County. A self-proclaimed blue-collar worker, Murray feels someone with his ideals is needed on the New Hanover County Commission. This 4th generation New Hanover County resident is ready to be the voice of what he calls, "the common man." Candidate Interview: Jonathan BarfieldJonathan Barfield is a second-generation New Hanover County commissioner. His father served on the board for 12 years. Barfield hopes to follow in his father's footsteps, which would start by being elected to a second term in office. Barfield serves on numerous boards and committees to help stay involved in the community. He sat down with us to share this thoughts on a proposed baseball stadium as well as the need for more jobs in Wilmington. The American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina today criticized the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners for voting Monday to reject a state grant that would have funded reproductive health care and family planning services for women.
