Pine Valley Elementary School and Holly Tree Elementary School were under lockdown this afternoon as law enforcement officers searched for a suspect involved in a car chase earlier this afternoon. The lockdowns were lifted in time for normal dismissal for students.

New Hanover County Sheriff's deputies served New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger with a protective order a short time after his Thursday evening news conference. A Sheriff's Office spokesman says the 10-day protective order was filed by Berger's ex-girlfriend Heather Blaylock.

Search crews have found the body of a man who wound up in the Northeast Cape Fear River early Saturday during Hurricane Irene. The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office says crews found the body of Melton Robinson, Jr., in the river just before 4 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators found more than 150 marijuana plants at a Pender County home yesterday. The Pender and New Hanover County Sheriff's Offices narcotics units seized the pot plants at 104 Wyndham Way in the Scotts Hill community.
