The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office says a woman was confronted and robbed in her own home this afternoon.
Deputies say the victim was taking out her trash on Christa Lane south of Monkey Junction, when a woman with a gun approached her.

A New Hanover County woman is out of the hospital and now in jail charged with trying to kill her daughter and cat. Jeannie L. Marvel, 49, is charged with attempted first degree murder and felonious cruelty to animals.

New Hanover County Sheriff's narcotics detectives seized more than 20 ounces of black tar heroin and more than 100 grams of methamphetamine. The drugs have a combined street value of more than $94,000.

New Hanover County Jail inmates were behind another type of bars Friday morning, helping out the Sheriff's Animal Services Unit. The inmates lent their skills with a brush by giving the kennels at Animal Control a fresh coat of paint.
