The Hoggard boys basketball team will be in the Mideastern Conference championship game for the fifth year in a row. It'll be the Vikings vs. the New Hanover Wildcats on Friday. In the Waccamaw Conference slowing the game down worked for the West Brunswick boys. They'll be in the finals on Friday. The East Bladen girls knocked off arch-rival West Bladen on Friday. Plus more! Keith Rendleman is now the all-time leading rebounder at UNCW. Rendleman broke Brian Rowsom's record in a setback against Old Dominion. Jimmy Fletcher has been named the new director of athletics at West Brunswick High School. Current athletics director John Floyd recently announced his retirement effective March 1. Monday marked the first night of conference tournament play in high school basketball. Player of the week honors for CAA basketball go to two different UNCW players: Keith Rendleman and Karneshia Garrett. Full story...

On Thursday night the Hoggard boys basketball team lost for the first time all season in league play. New Hanover beat Hoggard 52-32. The Laney girls captured the league title with a come from behind win over Ashley. The Bucs finish league play with a perfect 10-0 conference record. Full story...

On Tuesday night the Hoggard boys held their ground by defeating New Hanover in boys basketball. The Vikings remain in sole possession of first place in the Mideastern Conference. Laney now holds first place for the girls. In the Waccamaw Conference there's now a three way tie for first place in the boys with South Columbus, West Brunswick and North Brunswick. Full story...

On Wednesday on WWAY we showcased the Mideastern Conference Swim Championships at the Seahawk Natatorium on the UNCW campus. Hoggard claimed the girls title for the 14th year in a row. New Hanover lost on the road in boys basketball. UNCW lost in Atlanta against Georgia State. #1 Duke lost by 17 points, while the Tar Heels held off Georgia Tech. Full story...

Rasheed Brown of Trask was the frontrunner for WWAY's play of the night with a sensational slam dunk in the second quarter for Trask. It didn't end up being the play of the night though. Ashley's T.J. Williams ended up with that honor after he slammed home a dunk at the buzzer to give Ashley a one point win over New Hanover. On Friday night WWAY provided extensive coverage from the Laney Sports Hall of Fame ceremony. The hall grew by seven. Friday was also a special night at New Hanover High School. The 2012 state champion Wildcat basketball team was honored prior to the New Hanover-New Bern game. Friday also featured a game in Leland that was marred by fan misconduct. The game started with a packed house. It finished with all the fans being ejected. Full story...
