video On Monday night we talked with tennis legend Lenny Simpson. The recent inductee into the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame will be holding a free tennis clinic in Wilmington on Tuesday morning.... The playoffs are about to begin in American Legion Baseball. We have the matchups... It took a bit longer than expected, but New Hanover's Thomas Johnson knows where he'll be playing college basketball next season.

Two local NFL players will hold free football camps in July

Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Jay Ross will hold a free football camp in Wilmington on July 14. Oakland Raider defensive lineman Desmond Bryant will hold a free football camp on July 14 in Elizabethtown.

Cowboys cut TE George Bryan

Former New Hanover High School standout George Bryan has been released from the Dallas Cowboys. Bryan signed a free agent contract with the Cowboys in late April shortly after the NFL Draft.

Wilmington's Cari Blalock qualifies for U.S. Olympic Trials

Former New Hanover swimming standout Cari Blalock is headed to the US Olympic Trials. The Wilmington resident recently qualified in four different events. This will not be the first time for the UNC Tar Heel swimmer at the US Olympic Trials. She also competed in 2008, but Blalock only qualified in one event that year.

WWAY's Thursday night sports - May 10

video Thursday night sports featured the Hoggard girls lacrosse team against undefeated Green Hope in the state playoffs. We talked to New Hanover girls soccer coach Al Pastore about the end of his great coaching career. We previewed the season opener for the Wilmington Sharks summer league baseball team. On top of that, we provided a coaching update on former UNCW basketball player Mark Byington.

WWAY Friday night sports - May 4

video Friday night’s sports segment featured the UNCW baseball team in their series opener against Towson. We also checked out the Laney softball and baseball teams as they tried to position themselves for the postseason. We highlighted more high school baseball action from New Hanover and Hoggard. We also featured high school lacrosse playoff games between the Ashley and Laney girls, as well as the Hoggard boys.

video Trot Nixon will be inducted into the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday. We featured Nixon on WWAY's Thursday night sports. On top of that we checked in on the regular season girls soccer finale between New Hanover and Hoggard. Plus, we featured the new women's basketball coach at UNC Wilmington, Adell Harris.

Update: George Bryan signs with Cowboys; Will he be the next New Hanover Wildcat to make it big in the NFL?

video Sonny Jurgenson, Roman Gabriel & Alge Crumpler made it big in the NFL. They all played high school football in Wilmington at New Hanover. They're not the only former Wildcats to make the transition to pro football. Will George Bryan be the next? The NC State tight end certainly hopes that will be the case. UPDATE: On Saturday night George Bryan signed a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

video Friday night’s sports segment featured high school baseball action from all over the region. We checked out Hoggard versus Greenville Rose, as well as New Hanover against Laney. We even had a grand slam in softball action from Rocky Point, where Trask squared off against Union.
