Former New Hanover swimming standout Cari Blalock is headed to the US Olympic Trials. The Wilmington resident recently qualified in four different events. This will not be the first time for the UNC Tar Heel swimmer at the US Olympic Trials. She also competed in 2008, but Blalock only qualified in one event that year. Full story...

Thursday night sports featured the Hoggard girls lacrosse team against undefeated Green Hope in the state playoffs. We talked to New Hanover girls soccer coach Al Pastore about the end of his great coaching career. We previewed the season opener for the Wilmington Sharks summer league baseball team. Sonny Jurgenson, Roman Gabriel & Alge Crumpler made it big in the NFL. They all played high school football in Wilmington at New Hanover. They're not the only former Wildcats to make the transition to pro football. Will George Bryan be the next? The NC State tight end certainly hopes that will be the case. The dominant teams just keep on winning (Topsail softball & Hoggard soccer), while New Hanover's victory in lacrosse just earned the school its first ever appearance in the state lacrosse playoffs.
