Rain has caused organizers to shift days and times of the Ashley Spring Break Baseball Tournament. Both teams continue to show support of the Newsome family by wearing their 'Newsome Strong' jerseys. Former New Hanover slugger Jordan Betts knocked in one of Duke's two runs on Friday night off NC State ace Carlos Rodon. Duke edged NC State 2-0. UNCW beat Hofstra 9-2 in college baseball action. T.J. Warren, Leslie McDonald and Andre Dawkins had more than their fair share of impressive basketball plays in Burgaw on Thursday night. It was Warren's first professional game since declaring himself eligible for the NBA Draft. We had high school baseball action on Thursday. For the second year in a row Wilmington's Kadeem Allen has been named First Team Junior College All-American in men's basketball. Allen attends Hutchinson Community College. Brunswick CC's Cam Jones was named Third Team All-American. Full story...

Carter-Finley Stadium was the place to be on Monday if you wanted to see one of the best three-sport athletes to come out of New Hanover High School in recent memory. Jermaine Jones is a speedy wide receiver out of St. Augustine's in Raleigh. In fact Jones is one of the fastest guys you'll ever see on a football field. He hopes his speed will catch the attention of NFL scouts. Full story...

It took longer than most, but former New Hanover Wildcat basketball standout David Pellom is finally done with college basketball. He played his last game on Sunday in Raleigh at the NCAA Tournament. We were there before and after the final game with Pellom, a 2008 graduate of New Hanover High. Note, Pellom is currently a grad student at the University of Memphis. Full story...

Former New Hanover Wildcat David Pellom is still alive in the "Big Dance." Laney grad Elijah Wilson will not be moving on. His Coastal Carolina Chanticleers were eliminated by Virginia. The UNC Tar Heels are still kicking. The Duke Blue Devils are not. We had loads of high school sports on Friday night including a father-son matchup at Legion Stadium.
