Alex Rodriguez went hitless on Tuesday in two at-bats for the Charleston RiverDogs in his first game since left hip surgery in January. We showcased Alex's comeback on Tuesday's WWAY sports. Three players from the Wilmington Sharks have been named all-stars in the Coastal Plain League. The Atlantic Coast Conference's plan to expand, revealed in 2010 and modified along the way, has come to fruition. Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Notre Dame became members of the ACC on Monday, giving the conference 15 members. The CAA also welcomed a new member on Monday. The College of Charleston is now officially a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. College football is coming to Wilmington in September. Plus more! Full story...

Steve Melia, a Cape Fear native and comedian, made a home run of his own during the New York Yankees' 2011 season, attending all 162 games. Melia has now compiled that 162-game journey into a book, recounting his experiences in the stands. Full story...

America’s favorite pastime is mourning the death of a baseball legend. George Steinbrenner, the majority owner of the New York Yankees, died Tuesday morning after suffering a heart attack.
