Spartans head coach Tim Pope stopped by WWAY in order to fill us in on the 4th Annual MLK Jamfest. We also featured local MMA fighter Derek Brunson. The former Hoggard Viking is now in the UFC. The Super Bowl matchup is set. It's going to be Baltimore vs. San Francisco.

videoFor the first time ever Miami is off to a 2-0 start in ACC men's basketball. That's bad news for the UNC Tar Heels because the Hurricanes knocked off UNC on Thursday. The NHL season is finally about to start. We have an update from Raleigh. The Carolina Panthers have an offensive coordinator position opening. Rod Chudzinski is about to be an NFL head coach.

videoTurnovers troubles continue to haunt UNCW. On Wednesday night the UNCW men's basketball turned the ball over 21 times against James Madison. The Duke downed the Seahawks 78-50 in Harrisonburg. UNCW is now 0-3 in the CAA this season. NC State manged to hold off Georgia Tech. Wake Forest won along with the Cape Fear Community College women.

It's official, Andy Reid is the new head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills have a new head coach too.

videoOn Sunday the UNCW women's basketball team opened the CAA part of their schedule with a defeat. The UNC Tar Heel men's basketball squad opened the ACC part of their schedule with a setback. The Washington Redskins also lost on Sunday. Despite a knee injury Robert Griffin III tried to play through pain, but the Seattle Seahawks prevailed to advance in the NFL playoffs.

videoThe Carolina Panthers keep racking up victories late in the season, but it's too little too late for a run at the playoffs. In the 2012 home finale the Panthers held off the Oakland Raiders in a penalty-filled game. It's the fourth win for Carolina in their last five games. videoOn Monday the East Carolina Pirates held their final Greenville practice before heading to New Orleans for their upcoming bowl game. On Monday WWAY had high school hoops from Pender High. It was a backyard rivalry game between the Patriots and the Topsail Pirates. Duke is now #1 in the country in men's basketball.

videoOn Sunday the Carolina Panthers looked like a playoff team. Unfortunately the playoffs aren't a possibility for Carolina, but the guys in black, silver and blue won consecutive games for the first time since last December. The UNCW men's basketball team on Saturday lost on the road against the Davidson Wildcats. Check out our game action from Sunday's 6pm newscast.
