Veteran girls basketball coach Karlyn Stephens has resigned from East Columbus High School in order to accept a job at Southeastern Community College. Stephens will coach the softball team at SECC. On our 6pm sports on Sunday we checked out the "Holiday Hoopla" at Legion Stadium. The Wilmington Hammerheads pro soccer squad held a tryout, a free youth clinic and a sale on team merchandise. There's a new leader of the pack in Raleigh. Dave Doeren was officially introduced as the new head football coach of the NC State Wolfpack on Sunday. Former New Hanover Wildcat Cari Blalock had a great weekend in the pool at Ohio State for the UNC Tar Heels. Blalock broke a UNC school record at the Ohio State Invitational.

On Thursday on WWAY we checked out high school basketball action from Buctown. Nathan Faulk picked up his first win as the Laney head coach on Thursday. Monday on WWAY we checked out the Charlotte Bobcats. Last season the Bobcats only won seven games. This season they've already reached that plateau. On Monday former Hoggard football standout Jonathan Cooper was named first team All-ACC. We even have Cooper's reaction to all of his recent accolades. Trask Coliseum was the place to be on Sunday for the season opener for the UNCW men's basketball team. The UNC Wilmington-UNC Asheville game was tied at the half, but Buzz Peterson's squad prevailed in the end with an 8 point victory.....
