Family and friends are saying goodbye to football great Chester McGlockton. The Whiteville High alum died last week of an apparent heart attack at his home in California.

One of the best football players in the history of the Cape Fear region has died. Whiteville High School alum and former NFL Pro Bowler Chester McGlockton is dead at the age of 42. He died overnight in California.

Before he was named to the NFL's 1960s All-Decade Team, before playing 18 seasons with the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles and before he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, Sonny Jurgensen started his gridiron career as a quarterback for the New Hanover High School Wildcats.

Casey and Connor Barth are brothers and Hoggard High alums. Connor is a standout kicker in the NFL for Tampa Bay. Casey is currently sidelined in Chapel Hill with the Tar Heels. Casey may apply for a medical redshirt due to his groin injury.
