Wilmington's Cari Blalock finished in 4th place at the US Open Swimming Championships on Thursday. This was the first day of official high school football practice all across the state. The Wilmington Sharks clinched a playoff spot of Thursday. This was a weekend full of season enders. The season is over for the UNCW baseball team. The Seahawks lost to Elon at the NCAA's on Sunday. North Brunswick's baseball season ended this weekend. The Wilmington Sea Dawgs lost their final home game of the season. The Wilmington Hammerheads won on Saturday though. The Hammerheads are about to enter the middle stretch of their season. Plus more! On Friday North Brunswick lost game one of their best of three baseball state championship series. The UNCW baseball team lost to Elon in the NCAA's. Friday was "Trot Nixon Day' in Wilmington. We've got the complete story from Saturday's ceremony. Full story...

The Wilmington Sharks won their home opener on Wednesday night at Buck Hardee Field. The Sharks are off to a 2-0 start. The Portland Timbers beat the Wilmington Hammerheads in the US Open Cup. UNCW Chancellor Gary Miller plans to announce his decision on Thursday about whether to cut sports programs from the school's athletic department. Plus more! Full story...

In 1950 Tanky Meier started coaching the New Hanover High boys tennis team. Meier was a volunteer coach from 1950 to 2011. The 90 year old died on Monday after a short illness. On our sports at 11pm we paid tribute to the first New Hanover grad to have a sports facility named after him. On Tuesday the Wilmington Sharks opened the 2013 season with a road win. Plus more! North Brunswick defeated Northwood 10-5 on Monday night in game three of a best of three series in Pittsboro to secure the 2-A east title for high school baseball. WWAY was there to capture all the excitement. North Brunswick will begin play on Friday afternoon in Zebulon against Piedmont High School in the 2-A state championship baseball series. Full story...

Tony Kanaan won the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. Kevin Harvick won the Coca-Cola 600. The Wilmington Sea Dawgs dropped another home basketball game. The Dawgs are now out of playoff contention. Former Ashley baseball standout Trevor Kelly earned the save for UNC in Sunday's ACC baseball title game. Five ACC schools will host baseball regional competition next weekend. Full story...
