The North Brunswick Scorpions had to win on Saturday night in order to remain alive in the baseball state playoffs. The Scorpions definitely saved their best effort for the end of the game in Leland. North Brunswick and Northwood will now play a decisive game three of their best of three series to determine what team gets to represent the east in the state championship this coming weekend. Legendary high school football coach Jack Holley was buried on Friday in Duplin County. Legion Stadium in Wallace was packed to the top of the stands for Holley's memorial service. In order to win the CAA baseball title the UNCW baseball team must work their way through the loser's bracket of the CAA Championship. Towson defeated UNCW on Thursday 13-11. In order to make it to the state championship the Trask softball team has to win their next two games. Trask opened the 1-A eastern softball finals with an 8-2 setback against South Creek. Plus more! The CAA Baseball Championship is underway, but severe weather has been the winner so far. The UNCW baseball team won't hit the field until Thursday afternoon. On Tuesday the North Brunswick Scorpions advanced in the state baseball playoffs. Trask advanced in the softball playoffs. Ashley High has a new head basketball coach. NC State football coach Dave Doeren rolled into Wilmington to meet with the Wilmington Wolfpack Club. UNCW racked up at the CAA baseball awards banquet. The Bobcats will be the Hornets soon. On Thursday Hoggard football coaches hosted a NFL Draft get together for former Hoggard Vikings football standout Jonathan Cooper. The UNC Tar Heel offensive guard was selected with the seventh overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals. Thursday was an historic day at Coastal Christian High School. WWAY co-host and World Series champion Trot Nixon threw out the first pitch at the new ballpark. On Wednesday NC State snapped UNCW's six game winning streak in baseball. That wasn't the only snapped streak. The 27 game consecutive winning streak for the Miami Heat is over. North Brunswick High School baseball coach Randy Fennell has been resigned his position as the Scorpions head coach. Brunswick County Schools spokeswoman Jessica Swencki provided Fennell's resignation to WWAY on Wednesday evening. Full story...
