NRC schedules open house on Brunswick Nuclear Plant performance

GE Hitachi to pay $2.7M to settle false claims suit

videoThe US Justice Department says GE Hitachi has agreed to pay $2.7 million for allegedly giving false information to federal regulators. Despite the settlement a company spokesman says GE Hitachi "vigorously denies" the allegations.

Operators have shut down a North Carolina nuclear plant after finding tiny marks of corrosion and cracking that need repair. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the health and safety of employees or the public are not affected.

'Unusual event' reported at Brunswick Nuclear Plant

Progress Energy says operators declared an "unusual event" at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant in Southport today. The power company says it was caused by a freon release from an HVAC chiller on the plant's unit 2 turbine building roof.
