Tuesday night, members of the Wilmington City Council will talk baseball once again.
One item on the agenda is how much it will cost to put Ben McCoy and Josh Fulton's anti-tax based baseball stadium petition on the general election ballot.

The group behind a petition to block taxpayer money for a ballpark in Wilmington is farther from its goal than originally thought.
After double-checking, the Board of Elections now says the petition is 45 signatures short.

The New Hanover County Board of Elections is more than halfway through verifying the thousands of signatures turned in on a petition aimed at blocking taxpayer funding of a ballpark in Wilmington.

The battle over plans for a ballpark in Wilmington continue to heat up. Yesterday, a group against using tax money to build a stadium in the Port City submitted a petition with about 4,000 signatures. If the Board of Elections verifies enough of the signatures, the City Council would have to accept the language of the petition as an ordinance or put it up for a public vote.
