Here in Wilmington, Catholic school teachers are taking this opportunity to educate children on this history in the making and everything involved in choosing up with a new Pope.

video For about one billion Catholics around the world, the news of Pope Benedict XVI resigning came as a big surprise. The same was true for the Catholic Diocese in Raleigh. "I was absolutely stunned and surprised. There were no indicators I saw," Bishop Michael Burbidge said.

As thousands packed into Washington Nationals stadium to see Benedict XVI, students at St. Mary Catholic School in Wilmington gathered around a computer screen, to watch streaming video of the Pope's first U.S. visit.
