Last week New Hanover County Commissioners ran into a roadblock in deciding whether to pick up Melissa Gott to act as their temporary fifth board member. Because of confusion over Gott's residency, commissioners decided to wait. But now, Chairman Jonathan Barfield says Gott has got to go.

New Hanover County Commissioners decided to send nominee Melissa Gott back to the county GOP for more vetting after someone complained that she's not a full time resident of the county. Gott was nominated to take over for Commissioner Ted Davis after he was named to the state senate.

After weeks of public and even national outrage, New Hanover County Commissioners have voted in favor of nearly $9,000 in family planning funding. Last month, the board unanimously voted against accepting the money.

A vote to transfer thousands of dollars in private donations to the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority to help county residents without water seemed to be a no-brainer to the majority of county commissioners. Two we spoke with say they just don't understand why Berger would vote against it.

Most of us cannot imagine living without water, but there are hundreds of people in New Hanover County who will spend Christmas without it. A Wilmington woman we spoke with today decided to do something about it. Yesterday she donated $10,000 to help out.

New Hanover County Commissioner Rick Catlin may have put his foot in his mouth this morning during a radio show. On the Big Talker FM this morning Catlin said just like the federal government Standard & Poor's had downgraded the county's credit rating to AA+.
