Friday's 5th Quarter was action packed despite the fact we kept our eye on the weather all night long. The first half of the Hoggard game was clearly a spectator's delight. The Wilmington Hammerheads return to postseason play on Saturday. They'll be heading across the country to face Sacramento. Tamera Young may not need a miracle, but her Chicago Sky team has to win on Friday to keep the season alive in the WNBA for Chicago. The losing skid is over at South Brunswick High School. The Cougars hadn't won a football game since 2012 until they beat Pender by 30 points last week. On Tuesday we showcased two high school soccer games on WWAY. New Hanover edged Laney in the Mideastern Conference opener for both squads. Coastal Christian knocked off South Brunswick. Plus, it appears former New Hanover Wildcat football standout Daquan Barnes will miss the entire 2014 college football season for East Carolina. Full story...

The 2014 high school football regular season is underway. On Friday we had coverage from several games. We expected to have a full slate, but the weather interfered with those plans. Some games were completed. Some started, but will need to be resumed. Some games never started. Full story...

Day one of the Fred Lynch Invitational is complete. Six different venues are being used in New Hanover County to showcase this three day high school basketball summer event. Our coverage includes Quate McKinzie's return in a Pender High uniform. Earlier this month McKinzie received his first college scholarship offer from UNCW's Kevin Keatts. Full story...
